What I'm reading now: Sookie Stackhouse

I'm a bookworm and proud of it. And I love when I can find an author I'm really into and just read everything they have ever written. Good examples of this for me are Phillipa Gregory, Chuck Palahniuk, David Sedaris, and Chuck Klosterman. Of course I'll read anything if I've gotten a good recommendation!

Recently I've been reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris (these are the books that the HBO series "True Blood" is based on.) And I just love them-- I like to think this series is like the Twilight for grown-ups. And come on... you are probably all into this vampire fad anyways, so you might as well!Basically Sookie, the main character, works in a bar in Bon Temps, Louisiana. She is also a telepath (what? It's fiction!) In the series the vampire have just "came out of the closet" so to speak and are trying to live out in the open among the human race. The books are racy and violent at times, but that's what makes them interesting. Each book is one little mystery in itself and they are really quick and easy reads. Perfect for summertime.

The HBO Series is also pretty good (though I'm more of a Big Love fan myself) and the storyline is remarkably similar to the books-- something that I think is hard to find!

What's also great is that all of the books are available in paperback- which means you don't have to feel guilty about splurging. So far I've read the first three, and just purchased the next two in the series.
  1. Dead Until Dark
  2. Living Dead in Dallas
  3. Club Dead
  4. Dead to the World
  5. Dead as a Doornail
  6. Definitely Dead
  7. All Together Dead
  8. From Dead to Worse
  9. Dead and Gone
  10. A Touch Of Dead (Oct 09)
I've been alternating reading a Sookie Stackhouse Novel with another book, and am currently reading People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks, which is very good. I'll give you a complete update when I've finished.

Who's your favorite author?

Live Well,
