Book Love & Some Really Good Advice

There are very few things better than a good book. I love the smell of books. I love how really great authors put thoughts we've all had, into words and phrases in a way I could only dream of. Basically, if I could read books as a career I absolutely would. But since that isn't the case, I figured I could at least share with you my opinions on the books that I do find time to read.To start, I want to share with you THE best advice I've ever gotten when it comes to books and reading. It came from my 8th grade English teacher, Mrs. Rukavina. She said something to the effect of "You should never feel like you HAVE to finish a book. If it doesn't intrigue you, and you feel it's a chore to finish- stop reading it! Reading should be fun." Amen sister. I think having a teacher telling me it was okay NOT to read something, really made me believe it. I hope you take this advice as well.

For this reason, I will never "review" or even mention a book I did not like. It would be unfair to give you my opinion on something I didn't even read! And I really don't want to use the term review-- if someone puts in the time to write a whole book-- they don't deserve to get put on some sort of chopping block.

So since I will only "review" books I enjoy, I'm going to call the process Book Love. This is a magical term that could be any part of speech: noun, verb, adjective, etc. And I figured these entries should be unified somewhat. So here is the form I'll use:

Book Name
Author
Category
Pages
Brief Description (most likely borrowed from Borders or Barnes & Noble)
Book Love (what I thought)
Book Quotes

I'm sure I'll end up building on this list, but for now it's a start.

So sorry to tease you, as you hardly got anything out of this post except for how I am going to Book Love (used here as a verb) the books I read. Although I did share with you that really good advice from Mrs. Rukavina-- so that's enough I think!

Read Away!
Lauren

  1. I need to "book love" on my blog- considering that is what i have decided my blog is going to be about: books. that i love. Why haven't I actually written anything, again? Ugh, maybe its my indecisive nature. :( Anyway, love your idea
