The many personalities of Sparty

First of all-- yesterday I became a first-time aunt!!!!! I am so excited to welcome baby Claire into the world. She's beautiful and already well on her way to being the most spoiled baby alive, as I just left Babies R Us. I apologize in advance to everyone we Christmas shopped for because baby Claire got wayyyy more than anyone else. It's really hard to leave Babies R Us without spending a fortune on ridiculously adorable things!

But on to my new baby...

Sparty has been with us for about 2 weeks now-- and since he hasn't been eaten by King (it's actually really cute how much they get along,) or strangled by me, he has officially become a part of the family.

Sparty's "real" name is Spartacus-- but we call him Sparty for short. Here's a list of some of his other nicknames:

1. "Farty Sparty"-- this is when he let's a stinker go.
2. "NONONONONONONONONONO!!!!!" this is when I catch him peeing into a vent.
3. "Chunker"- this is when he eats his entire bowl of food 3.2 seconds after I place it in front of him... then he tries to get to King's food (which he is very successful at might I add.)
4. "Nugget"- This is when he's being a sweetie and cuddling.
5. "Spartles"- also a nickname for when he's in cutey pie mode. AKA Asleep.
6. "That's it! We're having you for dinner." For when he chews through part of the tree lights so that the bottom half of our tree is not lit up (I am SO not redoing that!)
7. "Smarty" when he actually sits when instructed. So far this name has only been used once.
8. "Good boy" this is what I imagine we will call Sparty someday. When he's out of the puppy stage. So probably 3 years or so.

Here's some pictures of our little nugget and King:

Santa Paws anyone?

Easy Cran-Apple Oatmeal

I've been on an oatmeal kick lately-- and sometimes oatmeal can get a little boring, but this fast and delish recipe packs a ton of flavor with a healthy kick! Enjoy!

What you'll need (1 serving):
1/3 cup fast-cooking oats
2/3 cup Simply Apple Juice (or any apple juice!)
Handful of craisins or raisins
1 Tbsp. brown sugar.

Combine the oats, apple juice and craisins and microwave for 1 minute 30 seconds, stirring halfway through. Add brown sugar and enjoy!

I told you-- easy AND delicious!

Wordless Wednesday- You have to be able to laugh at yourself edition

I have no problem laughing at myself-- and I invite you to join me. So quick... how many bridemaids does it take to help a bride pee?

That's my trying to pee "in public" face mixed with a little mortification. Thanks everyone for your help on the big day.

Random Catch-Up

I've been MIA so here's some random ramblings to tide you over until I have a REAL post for you.

Room: A NovelDay After Night: A NovelApe House: A NovelThe Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie: A Flavia de Luce Mystery
1. Books- I've read a lot of good books lately: Ape House by Sara Gruen (same author as Water for Elephants) The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley (I actually listened to this one on tape and LOVED the accent) Day After Night by Anita Diamant (sooo good! author of the Red Tent) and Room by Emma Donoghue (interesting psychology, but a bit depressing.)

Have you read anything good lately?

2. Wedding- I know I promised to keep you posted on all the goodness that was our wedding day. In truth I'm waiting on the pictures to illustrate how fabulous it was... but I have a couple of our cakes that aren't professional-- but still good quality and so I will share.

Exhibit A: Our Wedding Cake

I know it's beautiful right? And our cake topper was a cute little wire heart that said "Lauren & Mark" even though its a little hard to see, but all in all it turned out perfectly. Simple and elegant and just what I imagined. Thanks Beck's Crown Bakery in Crown Point, Indiana. And now on to...

Exhibit B: The Groom's Cake

We all know Mark is a fisherman. And so for his groom's cake we had a Musky cake created. And it turned out totally amazing. And it definitely stole the show. I mean look at that fish!! This cake is television bake show material. I think I maybe even remember someone asking me where our "regular" cake was (okay I made that up, but you get the point.) Thank you times a bajillion to Designer Desserts in Valparaiso, Indiana. P.S. Our honeymoon was fabulous.

3. So what else... oh yea. I am a crazy person and agreed to get another puppy. So this time next week you can count on a blog post titled the "The new puppy just threw up a pair of my underwear- still remarkably intact." (That happens to be a true story from King's inspiring youth.) So the new addition will be officially known as Spartucus aka Sparty. It's sure to be a party.

4. Our new home is in an area of Northeast Ohio affectionately referred to as the "snowbelt." I guess exactly where we live gets about twice as much snow as if you drive ten minutes away. And I'm starting to understand exactly why everyone around here keeps saying to me "I hope you like snow!" Because it started snowing a couple of days ago and literally hasn't stopped. It's not blizzard type snow-- just a steady flurry, but it seriously does. not. stop. It's like I live in a snowglobe. I think we have about 100 inches of snow still due to us this season. And that's like the only time I haven't exaggerated something ever-- I truly mean 100 inches.

5. I think you've had enough for now... Happy December everyone!
