DIY: Upgrade your Fireplace

We had (have) a long list of to-do's when we moved into our house. What was nice was nothing needed to be done, all are changes we just want to make.

One of these changes? The fireplace.

This picture was taken while we were house hunting and it's the only "before" picture I can find. Please ignore the previous owners huge dog blocking what I'm trying to discuss.

Now the mantle is cool. But there's wood. There's stone. There's shiny gold metal. There's concrete. Are we missing any other materials? I don't think so.

The worst part is the shiny gold metal.

We looked for fireplace covers to replace the shiny gold metal piece. Yea-- the ones we liked were upwards of $1000!

Not in our budget for something that doesn't really need replacing.

So what did we do instead?

Bought a can of flat black spray paint (one meant to be applied to metals.)
Mark removed the shiny piece.
We taped off the glass.
Mark replaced it.
And voila!

Doesn't that look so much better? All for about $5 and a half-hour of work!

What was your quick and inexpensive fix for your home?

bamboopink

It's time to play dress up!

Bamboopink is looking for independent consultants... and I totally caved on this one! For awhile I've thought it'd be fun to sell something similar: Lia Sophia, Mary Kay, etc. Even if you just got free jewelry or makeup! But I never thought I'd have the time to do all those house parties... which is why I'm totally jumping on the Bamboopink bandwagon!

Bamboopink is a new (affordable) jewelry line made and designed by JudeFrances, a high-end designer whose current line is sold in upscale department stores (and worn on the red carpet!)

You can sign up to be a consultant FREE until the end of the month. And if you decide it's not for you--no problem! But for now it's free, so if you even have an inkling (like I did!) that you may want to participate sign up now! Already sell something? No problem, as long as it's not a competing jewelry line!

Bamboopink will launch in April, so this is a ground floor opportunity. And the best part? You don't have to buy a kit, or keep inventory. You don't have to do home shows. You can do it all online via Virtual Trunk Shows! You make a commission from anyone who buys from your page (perfect for us bloggers our there!)

If you join and decide it's not for you... no problem! At least you'll have a heads up on some cute jewelry, and maybe some discounts!

Want to join? Go to www.bamboopink.net/LaurenTetrick and click sign up. Enroll using the simple steps and voila you're on your way to becoming a bamboopink consultant (or at least some major discounts!) We will be on the same team!

Remember it's FREE to join until April st at my link above! So do it! If you have any questions email me at Laurealism@gmail.com

Beach Baby Bump

First let me start of by saying that I totally asked for it.

When I was 18 weeks I wasn't really showing. I mean, I could tell... but a stranger may just think I'd eaten a box of donuts or something.

I kept whining. Saying, I just want to show already so the world can know, and I can official feel pregnant.

My main concern? We were going on a spring break trip and I wanted to be able to wear a bikini and clearly be pregnant at 22 weeks.

I swear the day we got there my belly just popped out. And now IT'S HUGE! I look as pregnant as some of my friends who are 8 weeks ahead of me (ahem, Jennifer.)

But, like I said, I totally asked for it. And at least it's clear I'm pregnant!

(click to enlarge. like you need to enlarge that belly.)

Scratch Brownies

Let's be honest. Things made from scratch are just better. But often things made from scratch are also way more complicated and messier.

Well not these brownies. They are super simple and delicious-- and you probably already have everything you need to make them! Oh and they're fat free! Okay-- I was kidding about that last part.

Scratch Brownies
You'll need:
1 1/4 cup butter
3/4 cup of cocoa
2 cups of sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cups of flour

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Melt butter, mix in cocoa.

Stir in sugar and blend in eggs one at a time.

Add vanilla.

Finally, add flour.

Bake for 30 minutes, and let cool for 20 (if you can wait that long!) Enjoy!

See what did I tell you? Easy!

Pee Pee Teepee

So I got some great advice based on my last post on becoming a boy mom. Most often mentioned?

The Pee Pee Teepee. Because apparently I'm going to get peed on. And I just know its going to go into my mouth. Because that's the kind of luck I have with these things (and I'm already gagging about it.)

But the Pee Pee Teepee is here to save the day. And I'll admit, I have heard of them before. But a quick Google search had me grinning:

Yes, that's right folks. Introducing the camouflage Pee Pee Teepee.

Why do I love this so much? Because Rambo loves everything camouflage.

So, what can we infer from this information ladies and gentlemen?

Rambo is going to LOVE to change diapers!

BOY MOM!

What did I dream about last night?

Going to the grocery store. It was nothing special-- just me wandering up and down the aisles getting the stuff that I get in real life.

Which means... I am officially turning in to a Mom, because seriously who else has dreams about just going to the grocery store???

And speaking of turning in to a Mom... it's official that I'm going to be a BOY MOM. Which means between the two dogs, Mark and the baby in my belly that there are 4 pairs of balls in my house. And I'm not talking tennis balls. I need to get a female fish. Or have an entirely pink room somewhere in this house!

A BOY MOM.

Oh boy. Pun intended.

Boys like things like bugs, worms, spiders and snakes. Of which this girl can probably only tolerate butterflies and ladybugs.

Boys do things like eat dirt, pee outside, climb trees and rough house. I've never broken a bone or needed stitches.

Boys don't have the patience for cute outfits. Which is definitely not going to work for me (you should see this kids wardrobe already... and he doesn't even weight a pound yet.)

Don't get me wrong. I can't wait to have this adorable little bundle in my arms, and I feel so blessed that it's a boy. Our own little baby boy.

But I can't teach a boy to pee outside. Or hunt for frogs. Or kill spiders with his bare hands.

Good thing I have Rambo.

But little baby, if you could just be a Mama's boy 5% of the time... I think I'll be happy! Any advice for a first time boy mom??
