You're awake, You're Awesome, Live like it.

This video has so many great messages. Whether it's your first day on earth, or your 10,210th (yes, I did the math.)

My favorite parts:

Being a person is hard sometimes, you should give people high fives just for getting out of bed.

Take brain pictures! Because amazing things will happen every day.

You were made from love, to be loved, to spread love.

You're awake, you're awesome, live like it.

Kids are learning to be people by watching you.

Keep up the awesomeness, Kid President.

20in14: 20 Blog or Journal Topics for 2014.

Last year I started a blog series called 20in13, which was basically a list of journaling or blog topics. The goal was to get through the list of 20 ideas in the year. I didn't quite make it, but it was fun and so I'm trying again. Here's a new list for 2014. Won't you join me?

  1. Let's hear some of the things on your bucket list.
  2. What popular notion or notions does the world have wrong? Explain.
  3. Describe a typical day in your current life.
  4. Write a poem.
  5. Is there a book or two that you find yourself re-reading every so often? Why? What are you currently reading?
  6. Picture post. Describe yourself and your life in a series of pictures.
  7. What are a couple of your go-to recipes? What are your favorite kitchen tips?
  8. If there was a list of ten rules that you governed your life by, what would they be?
  9. What are your favorite movies? Favorite actors/actresses?
  10. Your houseplant is dying. Tell it why it needs to live.
  11. Picture post. Let's see the things that make you smile in a series of pictures
  12. Let's hear about a beloved family tradition or two (or ten.)
  13. You were just named "Person of the Year." Why?
  14. What's the worst nightmare you can remember?
  15. Do you have any superstitions? Are there reasons behind them?
  16. Write a short children's story.
  17. Picture post. Go draw/paint/sculpt. Post a picture of your creations. (Oh, I know you have play-doh lying around somewhere.)
  18. Do you do volunteer work or something to better the world around you? Describe.
  19. 5 things that always get you into trouble.
  20. Start this entry with "I never told anyone..."
Let me know if you are participating, and I'll create a link up! (Plus I want to read your 20in14 posts!)

Laurealism Book Club: Goldfinch

In an effort to keep my reading resolution on track, I've started a book club on Goodreads.

We will collaboratively choose one book every month, and discuss it towards the end of the month via the club's discussion board.

If you want to join us from afar, I'll also be posting each month's book on Laurealism, with a wrap-up post at the end of every month.

Our first few members (we have since grown to fifty!) were polled and chose The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt as January's pick.

What are you currently reading? Do you belong to a book club?

If I put them out there for the world to see, I can't go wrong!

Here are my resolutions for 2014:

1. Be reading, constantly. To help, I've started a virtual book club on Goodreads, to ensure I read at least one book a month. Join me! Right now we are in the voting stage to decide this month's book... I'll keep you posted on what we choose, just in case you'd like to participate from afar.

2. Be hydrated. I drink a glass of water in the morning and one right before bed, but hardly any in between. Santa brought me this nifty Flavor Infuser Water Bottle($15) though, so that should help!
3. Be Present. This quote says it all:

4. Be out-of-the way nice to people. Compliment and make cheery small talk with strangers. Smile more. Pay for the person behind me in the drive-thru. Basically, while I'm out in public, I want to strive to make everyone I encounter just a little bit happier-- even if it's just for a second.

5. Give credit where credit is due. If someone is doing a great job, I'm going to let their superior know. The guy who helped me out the the car and held a genuine conversation with me? Tell his boss how awesome he is. The server who did a fantastic job? Let the manager know.

6. Improve myself. I'm going to try and invest more time in the things I love, and will make me a more well-rounded, worthwhile person (instead of getting sucked into the TV every night.) Doing more puzzles. Blogging. Playing more piano. More yoga. More meditation. More volunteer work. All the little things that make me happy outside of work and mommyhood!

So let's hear it... what are your resolutions?
