St. Croix, USVI

We've just returned from the paradise that is St. Croix* after a lovely vacation.

There were a few moments of the trip that were certainly challenging.

For example, every moment on every plane. We were the proud parents of "those" kids. The kind of situation where, if it wasn't one child (the talkative toddler, with no-inside voice,) it was the other (the unconsolable, screaming baby.)

But all of the rest of the moments? They were wonderful.

Moments watching Henry open his eyes every morning, look outside, and realizing where we were. And commenting on the ocean:

Biiiig Water.

And then remembering the pool:

Pool? Peas, Mom? Pool, peeeeaaase?

Moments watching William study the sand through his little fingers and dipping his toes in the ocean for the first time.

Moments where Mark and I could escape to our secret underwater world via scuba diving. There is a certain magic in exploring an entirely different place... together but without words.

And many, many heart-bursting-happy moments watching my boys interact with their grandparents, uncles and aunts, and seeing their relationships grow.

I have to remember that these are the moments that matter. Moments that are always here to see, if only I take the time to notice.

But there's just something about a place where the sun, sea and sand come together. A certain kind of paradise that allows these perfect moments to surface so easily all around me.

It never fails: with the sun on my shoulders, the salty air in my lungs and my feet sinking into the sand: it all comes together.

These are the moments.
